The war against the machine is long lost. It is humiliating to engage, but also terrifying to withdraw. A change in the way we define and perceive work is imminent. Converting labor, our labor, into labor of skill, into labor of emotion is crucial. Putting more heart in what we do is possibly the only remaining realistic option. The machine doesn’t have that —not yet anyway.
Goals to seek in the process:
1. Avoid becoming ‘’a replaceable cog in the system’’.
2. Avoid becoming the only defect in a system that is designed to function perfectly without us.
3. Never run a race that is not ours.
